We are pleased to announce our upcoming edition of the Finsec Dialogue on “Strengthening Governance of Market Infrastructure Institutions”, to be held on Twitter Spaces on December 14, 2022.
Stock exchanges, clearing corporations and depositories are also known as market infrastructure institutions or MIIs. They provide the necessary infrastructure for trading, clearing, settlement and record-keeping and thereby play a crucial and significant role in ensuring that capital market transactions are carried out smoothly and efficiently. In light of this duality of roles played by MIIs, that of discharging regulatory responsibilities and of pursuing commercial interests, SEBI had constituted a working group to review the functioning of the MIIs and enhance governance standards. The working group released its report on November 2, suggesting key recommendations to step up the regulatory architecture for MIIs.
In this edition of Finsec Dialogue, we will discuss some of the key proposals suggested by the SEBI working group and the implications thereof.
